Shooter Had Been Barred From Possessing Firearms

" SEATTLE, WA — The man suspected in the shootings of two people on Saturday was found dead in his vehicle with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday evening.

"Police say the 48-year-old suspect, who they identified as John L. McKay, of Renton, shot and wounded two people and injured two others in separate incidents in Renton and near Issaquah on Saturday afternoon. McKay was later found dead near 13000 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S.

"McKay was suspected of shooting a man in Renton about 2:30 Saturday afternoon and pistol-whipping two other people at his former wife's home in the 4100 block of Northeast Fifth Street. The shooting victim was in critical condition Saturday night at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

"Renton police say the victims were targeted by McKay.

"McKay then apparently drove to unincorporated King County near Issaquah, where he kicked down the door of his former mother-in-law's house in the 13400 block of 209th Avenue Southeast, said King County sheriff's spokeswoman Sgt. Cindi West. McKay chased the woman into the backyard and shot her, said West.

"A neighbor called police at around 2:55 p.m.

"The woman was in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center, though her injuries do not appear life-threatening, West said.

"In May, McKay was charged with felony harassment and domestic violence, according to King County Superior Court records. He pleaded guilty in September. According to the records, a no-contact order was issued in that case, and McKay was barred from possessing firearms."
