"He Heard His Mother Scream"
"AUGUSTA, KS — Two people have died in Augusta in what police are calling a murder\suicide.
"A boy called 911 at 9:41 p.m. Thursday to report shots being fired in the house at 1235 Helen in Augusta, said Tyler Brewer, director of public safety in Augusta.
"`He had locked himself in a bedroom,` Brewer said. `He heard his mother scream.`
"The dispatcher was able to talk the boy into crawling out a bedroom window to get to safety, Brewer said, and officers were on the scene within three minutes. They heard no gunshots following their arrival.
"After there was no response from inside even after authorities used a bullhorn to try to communicate, Brewer said, a special services tactical team entered the house on the southwest corner of Summit and Helen a few blocks west of State Street and found a man and woman dead inside.
"They have been identified as Gary Weaver, 45, and Erin Weaver, 31. The boy who called 911 is safe, Brewer said. No other children were inside the house when police arrived.
"There was no previous history of domestic violence or other police calls at that residence, Brewer said.
"It’s the first murder in Augusta since 2010, he said."
