Two Men Hospitalized Over Financial Dispute


"PAOLI, PA — Two men are in the hospital this morning following a double shooting in Paoli Saturday night that police have already labeled as an attempted homicide and suicide, Tredyffrin police reported.

"Officers were called to the 100 block of Summit Avenue in the Paoli section of the township at 11:47 p.m. on the report of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, the victim told police that he had been shot by a family member named John Richard Berry, who had shot him during a dispute.

"Berry, 70 was located at another home on the same block.

"Police say once officers arrived Berry fired his .38 caliber revolver several times. He then shot himself in the head. It’s not immediately clear whether he also shot at anyone else. No one else was reported shot.

"Both men were taken to Paoli Hospital Trauma Center following response by Paoli Ambulance and Malvern Medic 4.

"The victim, John R. Williams of Paoli, was listed in very critical condition following surgery. Berry was listed in critical condition with a serious gunshot wound to the head.

"Police said the dispute was over financial matters and the investigation is continuing."
