Man Dead, Female Shooter Is D.O.A.

"SHELTON, WA — Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating the gunshot deaths of two Shelton residents early this morning.

"At about 4:30 AM MACECOM dispatchers were called and asked for assistance for a domestic matter on the 600 block of Hoodcastle Dr. which is located about 12 miles north of Shelton in the Potlatch area of Mason County. A few minutes later dispatchers were notified that a man had been shot at the same house. Dispatchers received a third call from a female inside of the house who told dispatchers she had shot her boyfriend.

"When Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Law Enforcement arrived, they found both a female and male with gunshot wounds. A 48 year old Shelton man was dead at the scene. The female, a 41 year old Shelton resident, was still alive. She was transported by EMS and died while en route to the hospital.

"Investigators have developed preliminary information that the victim and the suspect had a previous relationship.

"Investigation has further disclosed that the female apparently shot the male then turned the gun on herself.

"A witness to the initial shooting fled the residence as the initial shooting occurred to call for help. The witness is cooperating fully with law enforcement personnel.

"Names of the decedents are not yet being released pending notification of the next of kin."
