Pair Survives Botched Murder/Suicide
"SHREVEPORT, LA — A Shreveport man is behind bars for trying to kill his girlfriend by deliberately driving into Cross Lake on Wednesday night, Caddo sheriff's deputies say.
"Dajuan Raheam Jackson, 29, was driving an SUV west in the 6100 block of North Lakeshore Drive when the vehicle careened off of the road and into the lake.
"Deputies who were dispatched about 9:30 p.m. found the SUV sinking about 15 to 20 feet from shore. Jackson was restraining his passenger, D’Aqua Guiden, 19, in the vehicle as it was sinking, deputies say.
"Deputy Devon Pickett and Caddo Fire District 1 fireman Justin Lewter, first on the scene, pulled Guiden from Jackson’s grasp and out a passenger-side window of the vehicle.
"She could not swim, so Pickett swam to shore with her.
"Jackson then climbed out of the vehicle and was escorted to shore with Lewter.
"Neither occupant of the car was injured in the crash."
