A Week After 30th Anniversary Couple Is Found Dead
"TECUMSEH, KS — The deaths of a husband and wife found in their Tecumseh home last Tuesday have preliminarily been ruled as a murder-suicide, according to a release from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office.
"In a release, the sheriff’s office indicates Andrew Jackson Jr. is a suspect in the murder of his estranged wife, Carolyn R. Jackson. Preliminary investigation also has determined Andrew Jackson’s death was a suicide, the release stated.
"The couple had been going through a divorce proceeding, which Carolyn Jackson initiated in March.
"Shawnee County sheriff’s deputies found the Jacksons dead in their Tecumseh home about 7:25 p.m. May 29, when they responded to a check welfare call.
"The Jacksons were found exactly one week after their 30th wedding anniversary—being wed May 22, 1982, in Monroe, La., according to Shawnee County District Court records.
"Those records show the couple was in the midst of a separation.
"Carolyn Jackson, 52, filed a petition for separate maintenance on March 16, citing incompatibility. On March 19, Andrew Jackson, 57, was issued a temporary restraining order pertaining only to the sale or disposition of the pair’s shared property. A hearing was set for 9:30 a.m. July 5.
"Records indicate the couple had three adult children."
