Elderly Couple Found Dead
"AMHERST, OH — An elderly Amherst couple was found dead in their home yesterday afternoon, the result of a murder-suicide, according to Lorain County Coroner Paul Matus.
"An EMS squad was called to the home, at 952 Wilshire Drive, about 3:40 p.m. to do a welfare check after family members hadn’t heard from the husband and wife in a day or two, according to Amherst police Lt. Joseph Kucirek.
"Margaret Kares, 76, and James Kares, 80, were each dead from a single gunshot wound to the head, Matus said. Margaret Kares’ death was ruled a homicide, and James Kares’ death was ruled a suicide, Matus said. Margaret Kares had chronic medical problems, was in chronic pain and was not doing well, Matus said. Her husband `did not have any med problems that we knew about,` Matus said. The couple died on Sunday, probably in the early morning hours, Matus said."
