Murder Becomes Murder/Suicide After Police Standoff

"CLYMER, PA — A Clymer woman apparently was killed by her former boyfriend at her residence Tuesday, authorities said.

"The ex-boyfriend then took his own life at his residence in Dixonville, about 31/2 miles away.

"State police identified the two as Kimberly Ann Romagna, 40, and Rodney Jay Wagner, 38.

"Indiana County Coroner Michael Baker said Romagna was pronounced dead at the scene at 1 p.m. of an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

"Wagner was pronounced dead at 6:22 p.m. of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Baker said.

"The pair reportedly had been in a relationship but Romagna ended it a short time ago, the coroner said.

"Trooper John R. Matchik Jr., public information officer for the state police at Indiana, said it is believed Wagner went to the Clymer residence in mid- to late morning. It appears that Romagna was shot by Wagner in the living room area while other family members were upstairs sleeping, he said.

"Wagner fled after the shooting, Matchik said.

"Clymer Borough police responded to the residence after the Indiana County 911 Center received a call from the residence at 12:07 p.m., Baker said.

"According to people at the scene, the victim’s mother, who does not live at the residence, had received a call from Wagner just before noon saying that he had killed Romagna and was about to end his own life, Baker said.

"State police found Wagner’s body in an upstairs bedroom of his residence after a standoff that lasted for hours.

"Wagner had been dead for several hours before he was discovered, Baker said."
