Suspect Shoots Himself As Police Arrive
"EDENVILLE, MI — The man officials said took his own life as they arrived at an Edenville Township home to investigate the case of a missing Saginaw Township woman has been identified as the suspect in the woman’s death.
"The man is Steven Michael Fabi, 30, a Midland County Sheriff’s Office media release states. Fabi’s body was found in a bedroom of the home at 5193 N. Fox Road by deputies. He died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, the release states.
"Authorities believe he killed Leigh Katherine Swanson, 45, of Saginaw Township. She also died of a gunshot wound.
"Swanson was last seen on Nov. 16, and last heard from on Nov. 18. She was reported missing on Nov. 20.
"Deputies received a tip from Swanson’s family in the form of a phone number from a caller ID, which led them to the North Fox Road home. When deputies arrived just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday, they heard the gunshot and were met by a man who said his son had just shot himself.
"Deputies later found Swanson’s body in a wooded area across the street from the home.
Officials confiscated computers from Swanson’s home and the home in Edenville Township for forensic analysis and forensic experts looked at the rounds that killed Swanson and Fabi to determine if they came from the same gun."
