2 Dead, 1 Injured In Strip Mall Incident
"MESA, AZ — A man entered a Vietnamese restaurant in a strip mall Thursday evening and fatally shot a woman before killing himself, police said.
"Mesa police received multiple 911 calls from Phu Thanh Restaurant just before 6 p.m. and arriving officers found the pair dead of apparent gunshot wounds, said Detective Steve Berry, a police spokesman. The dead man and woman apparently were in some type of relationship, but it was unclear if they were restaurant owners, employees or customers, he said. Their names were not released.
"Another woman suffered a gunshot wound to her lower body and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, Berry said. He said he didn't know if she was a target or was inadvertently caught in the gunfire.
"The shooting occurred in a Vietnamese restaurant near Southern Avenue and Extension Road.
"The restaurant was open at the time, but diners inside were able to make their way out, Berry said. One person suffered minor injuries in the rush to flee, he said."
