Estranged Couple Found Dead

"UTICA, NY — Authorities have ruled the deaths of a man and woman found in their Utica home Friday night as a murder-suicide.

"According to Utica Police, Moeun Porm, 45, had arrived home around 4:20 p.m. on Friday, March 8 following a trip to Cambodia. When she entered the home, authorities say her estranged husband, Somnang Porm, 45, was also there. Around 10 p.m. That night, the couple's children found the two dead inside the South Street home.

"On Monday, Utica Police Sgt. Steve Hauck said that a preliminary report had come back from the Onondaga Medical Examiner's Office and that police were ruling the case a murder/suicide. Sgt. Hauck said something happened between the two that led Somnang Porm to shoot his estranged wife in the chest with a long gun. However, it was unclear what had transpired between the two to result in her death. Sgt. Hauck added that the Medical Examiner's report leads police to believe Somnang Porm then took his own life with the same long gun.

"The long gun was recovered at the scene and police say they are still investigating a possible motive. Authorities stated they are still interviewing family members to determine the history between the couple and said the investigation continues."
