One Dead, One Critical After Attempted Murder/Suicide

"OLATHE, KS — A domestic dispute ended with one person shot dead and another critically wounded inside an Olathe home, according to police.

"Police said 52-year-old Donald J. Johnston died in the attempted murder/suicide. Police are still investigating the incident, but said 51-year-old Tammy J. Johnston lived through the incident but is in serious condition. Police believe Donald may have shot Tammy, then himself.

"A 20-year-old female who was reportedly locked in an upstairs bedroom called 911 to say two people were shot around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday. Police said she did not witness the incident.

"Police rescued Tammy from the home in the 15800 block of W. 148th Terrace 10 minutes later. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with critical injuries.

"Officers found Donald fatally shot inside the home."
