High School Murder/Suicide Prevented

"SOUTH COVENTRY, PA — A sophomore who had been in the district for only three weeks was led away from Owen J. Roberts High School in handcuffs Friday after allegedly threatening to kill a 16-year-old girl, five random people then himself.

"State police at the Embreeville barracks said the 16-year-old student was charged with terroristic threats and harassment. His name was withheld by police and school officials because of his age.

"The release from police said the incident occurred at 9:46 a.m. Friday but contained no other information. A call to the barracks Sunday resulted in no new information being provided.

"Acting Owen J. Roberts Superintendent Ray Feick said information he received indicates the alleged threat was made Monday, Nov. 9, but the students who witnessed it did not inform anyone about it until Thursday, Nov. 12.

"`This student has only been in the district for three weeks. And, from what I understand, he threatened the kids in gym class, but no one told anyone until Thursday,` Feick said Sunday afternoon. `I don't know why they waited so long.`

"Feick said Sean Earley, one of the high school's two assistant principals, acted immediately on the information and in accordance with the district's crisis assessment policy. Earley met with the student Friday morning and the student admitted he made the threats, Feick said.

"The student `said he was going to kill himself and take some of his friends out with him,` said Feick.

"Feick said the student has medical and psychological problems that may have contributed to the incident. And despite the four-day delay, `nothing happened between Monday and Friday,` he said."
