Internet Love Affair Leads To Attempted Murder/Suicide

"ORLANDO, FL - Orlando police are investigating a bizarre attempted murder-suicide case in West Orlando.

"They say the suspect is a woman the victim met on the Internet.

"Police said the woman thought she and the [man had] dated, but the man said he didn't recognize her until after they showed him a picture of his attacker.

"Police said the man returned home from grocery shopping to his Elm Court apartment in Middlebrook Pines about 10:30 Sunday night.

"According to the police report, the man heard noise outside on his patio and when he came outside to investigate he was confronted by a woman with a handgun, shouting at him that he wasn't returning her calls.

"They said the woman then started shooting, hitting him in the groin and leg area three times.

"She reloaded the weapon and started shooting again, then shot and killed herself.

"The man was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, but is recovering and doing well enough to talk to investigators about this bizarre story.

"Police said the strange part is, once they pulled the woman's identification, they found she lives in Georgia.

"They said it looks like she drove for hours to meet the man she fell in love with online, and that he says he barely remembers."
