Home Hospice Turns Deadly

"SPOKANE VALLEY, WA - Spokane Valley Police are investigating what they believe to be a possible murder, suicide in the 10300 block of E. 48th.

"The 70-year-man and his 78-year-old wife were discovered when their daughter went to the Ponderosa neighborhood home at about 3:30 p.m. Friday and found her parents shot to death inside. She told deputies her mother had terminal dementia and had recently been released from a hospital and into Hospice care at their home.

"She said her mother had become increasingly difficult to care for as her health declined, and that she dropped by the home frequently to allow her father some free time from caring for her.

"Authorities say the man's wife was discovered dead in a bedroom. Detectives said it appeared both the husband and wife had suffered gunshot wounds, and they recovered a pistol from near the deceased husband. No suicide note was found.

"They also said that the couple's financial papers had all been laid out. The couple's daughter said she called him Thursday night to advise him she would drop by Friday afternoon, and said nothing sounded out of the ordinary during the phone call."
