Suicide By Cop?
"BELLINGHAM, WA – A Bellingham man reportedly shot and killed his girlfriend after chasing her down, then was later shot by a Bellingham police officer Friday morning.
"The suspect is dead, but how he died remains in doubt.
"Bellingham police say it started just after 8 a.m. in the 2400 block of J Street. A neighbor saw a man in the street pointing his gun at a woman, who police say was the man's ex-girlfriend. The suspect allegedly shot the woman in the back, then in the face.
"Neighbors reported hearing at least five shots. The woman died at the hospital.
"When police arrived at the scene, the man took off running. Police say he then went to the home of the ex-girlfriend's mother in the 2800 block of Moore Street, where there was some sort of confrontation. A neighbor heard the commotion and called police. The suspect again took off down the street.
"Police say an officer spotted the man. Something happened that caused the officer to think his life was in danger. He pulled his weapon and fired multiple shots at the suspect.
"The suspect was found dead, but it's unclear if he died from the officer's gunshots or a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
"It's not immediately clear what led up to the initial shooting.
"The suspect and victim have not been identified."
