Another Divorce-Related Shooting

"WHITE OAK, AL - A Moulton man was shot several times and his estranged wife died from a single gunshot wound to the head Monday in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide.

"The bodies of Jacqueline Owens, 48, and Lamarce Owens, 59, were found on the gravel parking lot of White Oak Volunteer Fire Department just before 11:30 a.m., said Colbert County Sheriff Ronnie May.

"Jacqueline Owens was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Carlton Utley, while her husband died about 30 minutes later after being transported by ambulance to Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield.

"The volunteer Fire Department is near Alabama 157 and County Line Road in southern Colbert County.

"Family members told investigators that the couple separated several months ago and were going through divorce proceedings, May said. He added documents related to the court proceedings were found in a vehicle at the Fire Department's parking lot.

"The couple was married for about 13 years, family members told sheriff's investigators.

"`We're having autopsies done on both individuals and we'll know for sure if this was a domestic shooting between the two,` May said. `At this point, we're starting with that theory based on evidence found at the scene and from conversations with the family.`"
