Brothers Found Dead

"CANTON, NC — Returning home from the store, a mother suspected something was wrong Friday night when her two adult sons didn’t come out to help her with the groceries.

"The brothers—Reid Sellars, 50, and Brett Sellars, 47—lay dead in the basement of the home they shared with her, according to Police Chief Bryan Whitner.

"`It’s a murder-suicide – or it appears that way at this point,` Whitner said just after midnight this morning, standing outside the ranch home at 6 Pasadena Street.

"The brothers had been working on a car when their mother, Doris Sellars, left for the store. She returned home around 8 p.m. to find them both deceased.

"Whitner said both appear to have died from gunshot wounds, likely from a .45-caliber handgun found at the scene. He could not say which brother shot the other and which took his own life, or what the possible motive may have been."
