Shooter Hospitalized After Botched Easter Murder/Suicide
"PICAYUNE, MS — Only the name of the victim involved in an Easter murder and attempted suicide has been released. Authorities are waiting to identify the suspect.
"The deceased has been identified as 36 year-old Shandra Sheree Lavigne of Picayune, according to WDAM.com. That story states that her body was found in a home on 1013 Myrick Avenue in Lumberton and that the man who allegedly shot her is 61 years-old and also from Picayune, but the station did not identify the suspect’s name.
"Officers with the Lumberton Police Department were called to a Lumberton home at about 11:30 Easter morning to find the body of the Pearl River County woman. She had allegedly been shot and killed by a man who apparently tried to kill himself after shooting the woman, said Capt. C. Franklin with the Lumberton Police.
"Franklin said Monday morning that the suspect is still alive, but the sheriff’s department would not release the man’s name. With Monday being a holiday for Confederate Memorial Day, Franklin said he did not expect any identifying information to be released until Tuesday.
"`Until I can actually talk with the family members, we’re not going to release the names,` Franklin said Monday morning.
"Franklin said the suspect was conscious when he was taken to the hospital on Sunday and the suspect was able to tell officers that the he and female were involved in an altercation prior to the shooting after which he attempted to kill himself. Franklin said the suspect was last listed as being in serious condition."
