"Dad Shot Mom!"

"NEWPORT NEWS, VA — It was the screams of a teenage girl that made Steve Fillmore open his front door Tuesday night.

"`Dad shot Mom,` the girl told him.

"He rushed inside to call 911.

"It was 10:48 p.m. when police arrived in the 200 block of Whitewater Drive and found a 38-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Holly McPherson, a spokeswoman for Newport News police. The man and woman, who are married, were initially taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The wife's condition was considered good by noon Wednesday, according to police.

"The husband, identified by police as Clarence Robert Bishop, was pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m., McPherson said.

"Police believe that the man shot the woman and then shot himself, according to McPherson. The couple's 13-year-old daughter and the wife's 18-year-old son were in the home at the time of the shooting."
