Police: Hospital Shooting Was Murder/Suicide

"SYCAMORE, IL — The shooting deaths of a man and a woman in a Sycamore hospital Tuesday evening were an apparent murder-suicide, police said.

"Mario Engoglia, 54, a patient at Kindred Hospital, and his visitor and partner, Susan Triezenberg, 57, were both found dead shortly before 6 p.m.

"`Witnesses heard two shots just a few seconds apart and a gun was recovered from the room, from which nobody fled`, police said.

"Engoglia and Triezenberg lived together in Putnam County, Illinois in the village of Granville, police said. Detectives are considering the possibility that the killing was a so-called `mercy killing` of the sick Engoglia, a source said.

"Police declined to give details on Engoglia’s condition but Kindred Hospital is an acute care or extended care facility for patients who have serious illnesses.

"Police are waiting for the results of autopsies before commenting further.

"They are not looking for any other suspects, they said."
