Man Returns Home To Find Wife, Son Shot

"MAGALIA, CA — Last Thursday's shooting that left a mother and son dead has been ruled a murder-suicide by the Butte County Sheriff's Office.

"Investigators now say that Travis Leroux, 25, shot his mother Kelli, 50, once in the back of the head, and then himself in the chest with a 12-gauge shotgun.

"Both the mother and son were found by the father, Thomas Leroux Thursday afternoon after he returned to his Fir Haven Drive home after work.

"Travis was still alive when deputies and medics arrived, but died shortly afterwards. However, investigators say Travis told his father and a deputy that he killed his mother before he died.

"It is still unclear what caused the son to kill his mother and himself, however, authorities say it appears Travis Leroux had been suffering from some sort of mental illness."
