Son Finds Elderly Parents Shot In Home

"JEFFERSON, LA — An elderly man shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself inside their home Saturday morning, deputies said.

"The couple's son discovered his parents' bodies inside their home in the 600 block of Gelpi Ave. off of Jefferson Highway shortly before 10:30 a.m., according to Col. John Fortunato, a Jefferson Parish sheriff's spokesman.

"The son called 911 and when deputies arrived on the scene, they found Frank and Clara Branighan, both 89, inside.

"Mrs. Branighan was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Her husband was dead on the scene.

"Fortunato did not release any other information on the couple or what may have led to the murder-suicide."
