Panic Alarm Brings Police To Scene Of Murder/Suicide

"BAY MINETTE, AL — The Bay Minette Police Department responded to a panic alarm from a BP gas station Sunday morning and found a murder-suicide had taken place involving Linda Diane Milstid and Mark Anthony Milstid, both 41-years-old of Perdido Ala.

"Police responded to the panic alarm at the BP gas station located off of Ala. 59 North at 8:25 a.m. Sunday, according to Bay Minette Chief of Police Michael Rowland.

"After investigation, police discovered Linda Milstid, the store clerk, had pressed the panic button when her husband Mark Milstid came into the store.

"Mark Milstid then shot his wife twice with a sawed-off shotgun before shooting himself, according to Rowland.

"`It appeared both were deceased after being on scene for a few minutes,` said Rowland. However, when police walked outside of the store, Mark Milstid got up, walked outside and collapsed in the parking lot, according to Rowland.

"Mark Milstid was taken to the North Baldwin Hospital where he later died. His wife, Linda Milstid, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Baldwin County Coroner's Office.

"`The investigation revealed the Milstid's have been in ongoing domestic disputes,` said Rowland. Linda Milstid, according to Rowland, had previously indicated she was going to file for divorce.

"While these events were unfolding at the BP station, the Nokomis Fire Department responded to a call of a trailer on fire on Coleman Road in Perdido Ala. The trailer belonged to the Milstids. `It's their trailer, but we don't know how the fire started," said Rowland, who said the trailer was `engulfed in flames.`"
