Cats Homeless After Murder/Suicide

"SENECA, SC — A passing driver called 911 Saturday morning to report two people lying dead in the front yard of a home on 220 Steve Nix Road near Seneca.

"Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said investigators believe the deaths of a woman and man were the result of a murder/suicide.

"One victim was Gwendolyn D. Hiott, 58, said Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis. She appears to have died as the result of a gunshot wound to the chest, Addis said.

"The other victim was James Wesley Foxx, 50. He appears to have died as the result of a gunshot wound to the head, Addis said.

"A handgun was found lying near Foxx’s body, Addis said.

"The shooting is believed to have happened shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday, Addis said. The bodies were discovered around 7:40 a.m.

"Foxx and Hiott lived together; they were not married but were in a relationship, Addis said.

"Several family members live in the area, according to officials and neighbors.

"The home had been a safe place for more than a dozen cats, some that lived indoors and some that did not, and several dogs.

"After other investigators had documented the home and gathered evidence, animal control officials worked Saturday to corral the cats, from outside and inside the home, into more than a dozen travel cages."
