Engaged Couple Found Dead

"MONITOR TOWNSHIP, MI — Police have confirmed the identities of two people found dead in Monitor Township, saying they appear to be the victims of a murder-suicide.

"The bodies of Robert R. Burt, 51, and Michelle L. Pischel, 48, were discovered in their home at 1018 E. Midland Road around 3:38 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, said Bay County Sheriff John E. Miller.

"`They were engaged to be married,` Miller said. `We suspect it was a murder-suicide at this time, although we’re still investigating.`

"He added that the Michigan State Police Crime Lab responded to the scene and seized evidence.

"`There may be a suicide note, we’re not sure,` Miller said. `It appears he shot her, then shot himself. It appears there may be some medical reasons for it. We have an autopsy to deal with, and we’ll know more after that.`

"Burt used a .380 handgun in the incident, Miller said.

"`It happened sometime during the day, probably early in the day yesterday,` the sheriff said. `One of the victim’s kids found them.`"
