"CAMBRIDGE, OH — A man fatally shot his 5-year-old son and then killed himself at his Guernsey County home today, the Guernsey County Sheriff’s office said.
"The sheriff’s office went to the home just outside Cambridge shortly before 4 p.m. yesterday to check on Russell J. Ball, 36, because the office was told he had threatened to harm himself.
"Guernsey County land records show that Ball owned the property at 60043 Piedmont Rd.
"Deputies forced their way into Ball’s locked house and discovered Ball and his 5-year-old son dead. It is believed that Ball fatally shot his son and then shot himself with the same weapon, the sheriff’s release said.
"The son’s name was Jacob Russell Ball, according to state birth records."
