Two Dead In Rural Kansas Home

"HOISINGTON, KS — Two people are dead after an apparent murder-suicide north of Hoisington on Tuesday evening.

"According to a press release from the Barton County Sheriff's Office, officers were called to a rural residence in the 1600 block of NE 20 Ave. at around 8:30 PM by a juvenile who stated shots had been fired. Officers arrived at the single farm residence and found two bodies. The juvenile was hiding in a closet and unharmed.

"The bodies were identified by the Barton County Coroner's Office as 35-year-old Justin Heggemeier and his wife, 39-year-old Michelle Heggemeier.

"Both lived at the rural location and a preliminary investigation indicates the woman was shot at close range and the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"The incident is under investigation."
