Amber Alert Had Been Issued For Dead Man, Boy

"CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO — Police are investigating an apparent murder/suicide in Cape Girardeau.

"About 8:35 p.m. Tuesday, someone flagged down officers in the 300 block of South Hanover Street to report two people had been found dead in a residence, Cape Girardeau Police Sgt. Jason Selzer said in an email to local media.

"At the scene early Wednesday, Coroner John Clifton declined to release the names or hometowns of the victims—an adult male and a male juvenile—but said they were not from Cape Girardeau.

"Early Wednesday, the Jefferson City (Mo.) News-Tribune reported Jefferson City police had released a statement saying Demitrius Beasley, 40, of St. Louis and Markell Beasley, 6, of Jefferson City had been found dead of apparent gunshot wounds in Cape Girardeau.

"An Amber Alert had been issued for the pair Tuesday. By 2 a.m. Wednesday, the Amber Alert website indicated only that the alert had been canceled and Beasley and Markell had been located.

"The victims were found in a residence at 308 S. Hanover St., Selzer reported.

"He said police were investigating the case as a homicide but believed the suspect was one of the victims.

"Officers are `not looking for anybody at this time unless something in the investigation turns everything on its heels,` he said late Tuesday night. `Right now, we believe that the shooter's deceased.`"
