Shooter Dead, Victim In Critical Condition

"HOUSTON, TX — Police said a woman was sent to the hospital in critical condition after her husband shot her in what appeared to be an attempted murder/suicide late Thursday.

"According to the Houston Police Department, the couple's kids, who are between the ages of 10 and 15 years old, were home at the time.

"Police said it was around 10:24 p.m. when they were called to the 6400 block of Leader Street in southwest Houston. They found 45-year-old Miguel Calderon dead in a back bedroom and 51-year-old Catalina Calderon wounded in the kitchen.

"Police said it wasn’t clear if the kids witnessed the shooting, but neither appeared to be physically injured.

"The weapon was recovered at the scene.

"Later Friday morning, police said Catalina remained in the hospital in serious condition.

"A police spokesman said all the evidence in the home suggested it was an attempted murder/suicide."
