Cops Find Apartment Shooter Dead In Car

"PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenix police officers are investigating a possible murder/suicide in which three children were found unharmed in an apartment with one of the victims, according to a police spokesman.

"Investigators believe a man killed a woman at a west Phoenix apartment complex late Sunday and drove about 10 miles before killing himself, said Officer James Holmes, a Phoenix police spokesman.

"Police received a 911 call at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday from a man who said he killed his wife and that she was in an apartment near 79th Avenue and McDowell Road, Holmes said.

"When officers arrived to the apartment and forced entry, they found a 33-year-old woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound, Holmes said.

"Officers also located three children, ages 1, 4 and 12, in the apartment but police believe the children were sleeping and did not witness the incident, Holmes said.

"Investigators later developed information that indicated the shooter may be driving a maroon sedan in the area of 15th Avenue and Indian School Road, Holmes said.

"A police helicopter located the vehicle and when ground crews arrived, according to Holmes, they found a 32-year-old man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."
