Gunshot Victims Found On Roadway

"FRESNO, CA — A man is dead and his wife critically wounded in an apparent attempted murder-suicide in northwest Fresno late Saturday night.

"Fresno police were called to the 6100 block of North Benedict Avenue just before 11 p.m. Saturday. When officers arrived, they found a man and woman in the roadway, both with single gunshot wounds.

"The man, 57-year-old Fresno resident Paul Wayne Motley, was dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

"The woman lying next to Motley, who was identified as his wife, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment and is listed in critical condition.

"The incident occurred at West Escalon Avenue and North Benedict, completely closing down Benedict. Police received a call of shots fired shortly before midnight from a cul-de-sac on Benedict.

"Fresno police said the investigation is ongoing.

"Homicide detectives said Motley's wife recently filed for divorce and the couple had been separated since January. Motley confronted his wife Saturday evening after she parked her vehicle and shot her before shooting himself."
