Deadly Monday
"TUSCON, AZ — A man shot and killed his estranged wife outside her north-side workplace and then turned the gun on himself Monday morning, Tucson police said.
"Police identified the woman as Maria Carolina Coleman-Velasco, 49. She was shot and killed as she sat in the driver's side of her vehicle.
"Her estranged husband was identified as Julio Cesar Velasco, 59. He was found dead on the street outside Coleman-Velasco's vehicle.
"Police received calls about shots being fired in the 300 block of West Alturas Street, near North Oracle and West Grant roads, just before 11:30 a.m, said Sgt. Maria Hawke, a Tucson police spokeswoman.
"A witness reported seeing a man firing into a Toyota Scion and then turning the gun on himself, Hawke said.
"Hawke said the man and woman were married, but estranged. She said Velasco waited near his estranged wife's workplace Monday morning. The name of the business was not identified.
"As Coleman-Velasco arrived for work, Velasco walked up to her vehicle and fired a handgun at her. He then fatally shot himself.
"Coleman-Velasco was shot multiple times, Hawke said in a news release. A gun was found in the street near Velasco's body."
