Foul Odor Leads To Gruesome Discovery

"COMMERCIAL TWP, NJ — New Jersey State Police are investigating a possible murder-suicide in Laurel Lake Wednesday night

"The bodies of Scott Rector, 30, and Stacy Rector, 28, of Samuel Drive, were found just after 6 p.m. Wednesday by one of Scott Rector’s co-workers, according to State Police spokesman Lt. Stephen Jones.

"Jones said that police believe that Stacy Rector shot her husband and the couple’s two dogs before turning the gun on herself.

"The co-worker hadn’t seen Scott Rector in a few days so he went to his home [on Samuel Drive] to check on him Wednesday.

"When he arrived he could smell a bad odor and when he forced open the door, he found the couple on a bed, Jones said.

"He notified police. State Police and Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office detectives arrived to investigate the scene.

"Detectives found a handgun belonging to Scott Rector on the scene and believe it to be the weapon used in the incident, Jones said.

"They also found a note near where the couple lay dead.

"The contents of that note were not released.

"Police did not release possible motives for the murder-suicide, Jones said, but the case remains under investigation."
