3 Dead, 2 Injured After Elderly Gunman's Rampage
"MIAMI, FL — An elderly South Florida man shot and killed two people and injured a third before turning the gun on himself in a series of shootings in Miami-Dade Wednesday, police said.
"Roberto G. Sousa, 72, was found dead near a blue Toyota Camry in the 15200 block of Southwest 177th Avenue Wednesday afternoon of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after a deadly rampage at two different residences, Miami-Dade Police said Thursday.
"Police say the incident began when officers received a 911 call of a shooting at a home at 10330 Northwest 35th Avenue. When officers arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
"The victims, 79-year-old Jesus Fernandez and 77-year-old Miguel Enriquez, were airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center where Fernandez died of his injuries. Enriquez remains in critical but stable condition, police said.
"As officers investigated the shooting they learned a third victim, identified as 56-year-old Elio Acosta, was shot in a home at 10515 Northwest 36th Place. Acosta was pronounced dead by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
"Moments later, police learned of Sousa's suicide. The weapon found near Sousa was the same one used in the previous shootings, police said.
"Police said Sousa was known to the victims, but the exact nature of the relationship wasn't known. The motive behind the shooting is also unknown."
