Shooter Dead At Scene, Victim Airlifted To Hospital
"KISSIMMEE, FL — Kissimmee Police Department detectives continue to investigate a shooting that became an attempted murder/suicide in a neighborhood blocks from Lake Tohopekaliga that left one person dead and another wounded Tuesday.
"The victim, 64-year-old Martha Smith, was shot by 81-year-old William Marble, who then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.
"Police received the call around 5 p.m. regarding the shooting and responded to 510 Poinsettia Lane, a block from Neptune Road in the Lakeshore subdivision.
"In the 9-1-1 call, Smith reported being shot twice, once in the face and hand. She also said she thought she was shot in the chest. She told a dispatcher that Marble shot her.
"Nearby residents said they didn’t hear any gunshots before a handful of police cruisers descended upon the neighborhood.
"Police spokesperson Stacie Miller confirmed Marble was pronounced dead on the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. She had no details of any relationship between he and Smith, saying only they are both caregivers for the homeowner.
"Miller reported that Smith was airlifted to a local hospital, where she was listed in stable condition as of early Wednesday afternoon."
