Virginia State Senator "Fair" After Attempted Murder/Suicide

"MILLBORO, VA — Austin Gus Deeds, 24, is reported to have stabbed his father, Virginia State Senator Creigh Deeds, early on the morning of November 19 at the family home in Millboro, Virginia.

"A police press conference confirmed that Senator Creigh Deeds had been stabbed in the head and torso multiple times in his house on 26 Vineyard Drive in Millboro, Virginia. Inside the home, emergency responders found Gus Deeds with life threatening injuries that were consistent with a single gun shot wound, that's believed to have been self-inflicted. First responders attempted to save Gus Deeds life but the 24-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. A police spokesperson confirmed that the senator and his son had an `altercation` on the morning of November 19. There was nobody else in the home at the time of the attack.

"After being stabbed, Senator Deeds stumbled out of his house and on to route 42 which is 45 yards from the house. He was found by his cousin who lives nearby. From there, Senator Deeds was brought to his cousin's farm, where he was then transported via helicopter to a hospital. His condition has been upgraded to `fair` as of 3:30 p.m. on November 19."
