Mangrove Murder, Swamp Suicide
"Fiji police believe that the body of a male and a female found in mangrove swamps at Sovi Bay in Sigatoka is a murder-suicide case involving two lovers.
"The bodies were discovered by villagers in Sovi Bay on Sunday evening.
"Divisional Crime Officer West, Assistant Superintendent Vijay Singh confirms that the post mortem examination reports confirm that the woman died as a result of head injuries via a blunt object while the man died of strangulation.
“`We think it was a murder-suicide case where the boy may have hit the girl with a blunt object and then hung himself,` Singh said.
"He said that it appears that the pair had a `boyfriend and girlfriend` relationship and police are still trying to get statements from the family to confirm their hunch.
“`Investigations are still continuing and we will release the details once we get to the bottom of this case,` Singh said.
"The man, 24, was employed as a digger driver while the woman, 22, was unemployed and stayed at home."
