Danse Class Macabre

"BRIDGEVILLE, PA - A gunman walked into a dance class in a Pittsburgh gym last night and opened fire with two weapons, killing four women and injuring at least nine others before shooting himself.

"The bald man, a member of the gym who was wearing a black bandanna, entered the LA fitness Centre in Collier Township shortly after 8pm, turned off the lights and began shooting, according to witnesses.

"`He did not say anything. He walked into the room as if he knew where he was going and pulled out the guns and began shooting,` said Charles Moffatt, an Allegheny County Police Superintendent.

"Joann Gazzam, a regular at the weekly Latin impact dance exercise class said a man came through the glass double doors at the exercise room's entrance.

"He walked to the back of the room near some weights and set down a bag, fumbling with it for a few minutes before coming up with what appeared to be two guns and began shooting.

"Investigators were trying to piece together a motive today, Mr Moffatt said police were not sure who the target of the shooting was but that the gunman went into the health club planning to shoot several people, firing multiple weapons indiscriminately.

"The violence has shocked Collier, a tiny commuter town of about 5,300 residents around eight miles southwest of central Pittsburgh.

"Mr Moffatt said the gunman was a member of the health club and had identification but that police needed to check fingerprints and speak to his family to confirm his identity. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner said three of the four victims had been positively identified, but not yet named.

"Police recovered at least two guns from the scene and a note found in the man’s duffel bag, but he would not say whether the he had written it.

"Two victims remained critical this morning, two others were in surgery and two had reportedly been treated and released, with the others still hospitalised."
