Murder On Friday, Suicide On Saturday
"WESTMINSTER, MA -- A tense standoff at a Westminster hotel ended Saturday when a person of interest in a Fitchburg murder shot himself, police said.
"The suspect, Ha Yang, 25, was surrounded by police and SWAT crews who learned he was staying at the Rodeway Inn at 183 Main St. on Saturday afternoon.
"After a standoff that lasted several hours, police teams fired tear gas into the room and then heard a gunshot inside shortly after. Officers broke down the door and found Yang suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a statement from the Worcester District Attorney’s Office.
"Yang was transported from the motel by ambulance to Leominster Hospital. Timothy Connolly, a spokesman for the district attorney's office, said Yang was on life support with critical injuries on Saturday evening.
"Yang was wanted for questioning after a murdered woman was found in his apartment at 80 Grove St. in Fitchburg on Friday at about 7:30 p.m. The motel where the standoff ended is about 6 miles from the apartment."
