Details "Sketchy And Unconfirmed"

"MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ - In Collinsville, police have been investigating a little girl's death, and what looks like her mother's attempted suicide, according to a spokesman from the Morris County Prosecutors' Office.

"The joint investigation is being run by the office's Major Crime Unit, the township Police Department and the County Sheriffs Department Criminal Investigations Unit. The story is still developing and details remain sketchy and unconfirmed at this time.

"Jeff Paul, spokesman for the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said officers responded to a 911 call from Highland Avenue around 10:15 Sunday morning. At the time, Diana Ritchie, 59, said she was getting ready for church, when she saw a neighbor place a little girl on his front lawn, where paramedics performed CPR on her, taking her to an ambulance nearby.

"The woman was reportedly at the front of the house with her two children, while her husband was out back, mowing the lawn. He heard a commotion, and went to check it out, only to find his little girl's lifeless body on the ground.

"It appears she was strangled. The man then reportedly found his wife on the porch, bloodied, her wrists slit. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she was listed Sunday night in critical condition.

"Investigators are still trying to nail down the specifics of what happened, and interviews with the central witnesses and neighbors in the area are ongoing."
