Autopsies Indicate Murder/Suicide
"COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, IN - The shooting deaths of two people in Country Club Hills are being investigated as an apparent murder-suicide, police said this afternoon.
"Police Chief Regina Evans said preliminary results of autopsies by the Cook County medical examiner’s office indicate an apparent murder-suicide.
"Maria Davis, 49, of the 3800 block of 172nd Street, was the victim in a shooting that occurred at her home, the chief said. Davis suffered multiple gunshot wounds, Evans said.
"Davis was a secretary at Southwood Junior High School in the city. School officials said they were offering grief counseling Monday morning to students and staff.
"`Some of the staff have been sent back home due to the shock of the situation,` city spokeswoman Marge Seltzner said.
"The second body was identified as Willie J. Watkins Jr., 55, of the 18000 block of Birch Avenue, Country Club Hills. Evans said he suffered one gunshot wound to the head.
"Evans said police at this time do not know the nature of the relationship between the two people, and the police investigation of the shootings continues."
