Murder In The Morning, Suicide In The Afternoon
"FAIRFAX, VA - A woman was shot to death Wednesday morning in the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County, and police said her attacker was an acquaintance who later killed himself in Arlington Wednesday afternoon.
"The woman's name was not released pending identification of the body. Police said she was in her 20s.
"The body was found at 7:25 a.m. in the driver’s seat of a car near Orinda Court and Francisco Way in the Sacramento neighborhood, just east of Fort Belvoir, Officer Bud Walker said. Walker said that the woman had been shot more than once and that a shotgun was recovered at the scene.
"Police said witnesses reported seeing a black man with dreadlocks, in his 20s or 30s, drive from the scene in a gold vehicle. Walker said investigators think the man and the woman knew each other.
"About 4 p.m. Arlington police responded to the 1200 block of South Quincy Street for the report of a man with a gun. When officers approached the man on a sidewalk near an apartment building, he shot himself, said Detective Crystal Nosal. He was pronounced dead a short time later, Nosal said.
"On Thursday, Fairfax police identified the man as Antoine Avery, 25, of Crown Grant Drive in Spotsylvania County. Police confirmed that he'd shot the woman earlier Wednesday."
