Three Shots, Two Dead
"HAMMOND, IN - The bodies of a man and woman were found in a downtown apartment Friday, the result of an apparent murder-suicide, police said.
"Officers were called to an apartment complex in the first block of Elizabeth Street at 9 a.m., after the sister of the female victim told police she had been unable to make contact with her sibling.
"Responding officers forced entry into the apartment and reported finding a 47-year-old female with apparent gunshot wounds, and a 51-year-old male with an apparent gunshot wound to his head, inside.
"The tenant of a neighboring apartment told detectives that she heard three loud bangs followed by a male voice around 3 a.m. Wednesday, but did not call police, according to the detectives' report.
"A .38-caliber revolver was found at the scene, police said, and both the woman and man were believed to be tenants of the apartment complex.
"Their identities had not yet been released Friday afternoon, pending an investigation by the Lake County Coroner's office."
