"They Were As Normal As Apple Pie"

"CADYVILLE, NY - Two people have been found dead in their Cadyville home.

"State police went to the 1797 Route 3 home at 7:30 a.m. after receiving a call that two people were dead at the home.

"Police said they found Patrick Maynard, 48, and Rose Maynard, 47, dead inside the home.

"Police are calling it an apparent murder-suicide. According to police, the weapon used was a handgun, but they don't know who was killed first.

"`Very shocked ... It's always a shock surprise, this kind of thing takes places in a small town like Cadyville,` said the Rev. Jeff Turcotte.

"According to police, the couple's oldest daughter found her parents after her mother's co-worker told her that Maynard failed to show up to work.

"The husband and wife both worked at Clinton Correctional Facility. Patrick Maynard was a correction officer and Rose was a counselor.

"Neighbor Janet Bombard [said] that relatives of the homeowners were at the home Friday morning and that Patrick and Rose Maynard live at the home. Bombard said she saw Rose Maynard at the home and walking around the neighborhood Thursday night.

"`They were as normal as apple pie,` Bombard said of the Maynards, who she said both worked at the correctional facility in Dannemora. Bombard said all of her grandchildren grew up with the Maynard's children.

"A friend of Rose Maynard [said] that she was going through a divorce and was having marital troubles, but police would not confirm that."
