Gunshot Heard As Police Arrive For Welfare Check

"MAGNOLIA, NJ — A 66-year-old Camden County man killed his wife and then shot himself in the family's Magnolia home on Wednesday night, prosecutors said.

"Henry Yip shot his wife Vicki Yip, 54, and then took his life inside their home on 313 East Washington Avenue around 7 p.m., shortly after the county's 911 dispatch center received a call from a distraught man who claimed to have killed his wife, Camden County Prosecutor Warren Faulk said in a statement.

"Officers responded to the home after receiving a call from a relative of the Yips, who asked police to check on the family, Faulk said. An officer arrived at the house, and heard a gunshot seconds later.

"Around the same time, a 911 call was made from the Yip residence from a person who claimed to have killed his wife and was planning to kill himself, Faulk said.

"Henry Yip apparently made an `alarming` phone call a relative earlier in the evening, which prompted the initial call to police."
