Mother, Daughter Found Dead In Nursing Home

"SAN FRANSISCO, CA — Police are investigating the two deaths discovered Monday night at the Central Gardens Nursing Facility near Cathedral Hill in San Francisco as an apparent murder/suicide.

"At approximately 5:30 p.m., the 60-year-old daughter of a 93-year-old female resident of the home arrived to visit her mother at the facility on 1355 Ellis Street, police Officer Gordon Shyy said. After about two or three hours, staff at the facility found both of them inside the mother's room with gunshot wounds.

"Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

"The door to the mother's room had been closed for the duration of the daughter's visit, Shyy said.

"Police were called to the facility about 8:15 p.m. on a welfare check and discovered the victims, Shyy said.

"The preliminary results of the investigation show that it appeared to be a murder/suicide, Shyy said.

"Central Gardens is a privately owned, 92-bed, skilled nursing facility. It has been in continual operation since 1963.

"The staff at the center told police they were not aware of anything problematic between the mother and daughter, Shyy said.

"Staff at the facility declined to comment Tuesday.

"Police believe this was an isolated incident and there were no other victims related to this incident. As of Tuesday morning, the medical examiner's office had not released the names of the victims."
