Teen Woken By Gunfire Finds Mom Dead, Dad Shot

"PASADENA, TX — A Pasadena teenager is in shock after police say she found her mother dead and her father shot early this morning.

"Just after 6am, Pasadena police received a call from the home on West Bird Road, just off the intersection of Shaver and Southmore. Police tell us a 17-year-old girl woke up when she heard two gunshots in her home and discovered her mother dead in the parents' bedroom and the father injured. He did not survive.

"Investigators say the woman was going to file for divorce from her husband today, something he didn't want. They believe he shot her, then himself, leaving the teen to find them.

"`I'm sure she's very distraught and it's very tough on the kid at this age,` said Vance Mitchell with the Pasadena Police Department. `She has an older brother. This is the tragic part of this. It's sad that it happened. It's really tough, a big tragedy for the kids to have to go through this.`

"The teen's older brother wasn't home at the time, but did come to the scene soon after."
