"MUMBAI: A 30-year old woman allegedly strangulated her two children to death and tried to commit suicide at her house in suburban Bhandup on Monday, police said.

"The woman, resident of Kismet Nagar, strangulated her five year old boy and two and a half year old daughter at around 2.30 pm in her house and later attempted suicide by hanging herself. She was rushed to Mulund hospital. She has survived but her two kids are dead, DCP Rajkumar Watkar said.

"The reason as to what prompted her to take the extreme step is not clear, he said, adding that she is not mentally sound.

"Her husband, who is a scrap dealer, and 10-year-old son were out when the incident took place, he said."
