Xmas in Phoenix: Two Dead

"PHOENIX, AZ - A Phoenix family is dazed and in mourning after a Christmas gathering turned tragic.

"911 operators got a call about a shooting near 27th Avenue and Glendale Avenue about 8 p.m. Police Lt. Robert Sparks said about a dozen people led them to a woman in her 20s who had been fatally shot in the front yard.

"Family members told the officers a man who had a relationship with woman had unexpectedly arrived at the holiday celebration at the house on 24th Drive. He declined an invitation to come inside and instead asked the woman step outside the house.

"Shortly after she exited, people inside the home heard a gunshot. They went outside and saw the woman on the ground and the man running southbound down the street, according to police.

"Police established a perimeter around the neighborhood and brought in a helicopter and K-9 search teams.

"Sparks said they found the man about six houses away. He was dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Officers have recovered the gun."
